Today is Malcolm Mclaren's Funeral in London

Malcolm McLaren, British Institution, former manager of the Sex Pistols and impresario died 2 weeks ago aged 64. Today is his funeral in London. The funeral procession will travel through North London, Camden and then up to Highgate Cemetery which is where McLaren had said he wished to be buried.

His family and friends have asked that at 12 o'clock people have a 'Minute of Mayhem' where they play their loudest music and dance around in tribute to Malcolm.

A statement was released by his son Joe Corre on his website and read "In celebration of Malcolm's life we are asking people to observe a minute of mayhem at midday,"
"Put on your favourite records and let it rip!"
What a lovely idea...
There are also details of the funeral cortege so we, his fans can pay our respects to him.

McLaren was diagnosed with mesothelioma in October last year, a rare form of cancer caused by asbestos. It is thought that Malcolm contracted this from hacking out the roof of the shop in Kings Road in the 70's when he and Vivienne were setting it up. Such a sad thing as their 'SEX' shop is written in punk legend now as the focal point of the movement and it is also where, in 1975 John Lydon auditioned for the Sex Pistols.

Vivienne Westwood had this tribute two weeks ago: "When we were young and I fell in love with Malcolm, I thought he was beautiful and I still do. I thought he was a very charismatic, special and talented person. We hadn't been in touch for a long time. The thought of him dead is really something very sad."

The legend that is John Lydon, aka Johnny Rotten said: "For me Malc was always entertaining, and I hope you remember that. Above all else he was an entertainer and I will miss him, and so should you."

As well as the Sex Pistols, I will remember Malcolm for his interest and fusion of hip hop music and culture in the 80's and the other bands he managed in that era like Bow Wow Wow which defined the sounds of my childhood.

McLaren was also a filmmaker and producer, painter, solo artist and even took a stab at being Major of London- what an interesting 4 years that could have been. Malcolm- we will miss you.
