Akala has a new single and Album!

Akala is a Buddhist term for "immovable” and his forthcoming Album has been quoted as ''a spirited corrective for mainstream hip-hop’s directionless excess.”

The first single XXL is out now on Akala's own Illa State Record label.

The Album 'DoubleThink' is partly a concept album inspired by the three classic novels of dystopian fiction: George Orwell's 1984, Aldous Huxley's Brave New World and Yevgeny Zamyatin's We. DoubleThink distills these messages in weighty blasts of musically fierce lyrical hip hop, but it's also an excitable, effervescent listen. Akala touches on race, class, sexism, history, war, hip-hop culture and what it is like to live in a world one knows to be inherently unequal, yet rounds it all off not with accusations or anger but inward self-analysis.

DoubleThink’ The Album is out on 3rd May 2010

“smart, addictive and right on the mark.” The Independent
“Startlingly effective.” The Guardian
“...lets see Akala’s peers follow his lead.” NME
