1234 Festival, Shoreditch, July

The 1234 Festival was held in Shoreditch Park on Saturday. It was really busy when we got there mid- afternoon with lots of locals, families and bands hanging out.
The VIP queue to get in...

The best music was at the dance tent, although the DJ didnt mix at all- Just worked on 1 deck dropping one record after another, playing mostly dubstep and dance with a 90's rave vibe- I expected a bit more- you should at least be able to mix. Sometimes at Fetivals I wonder who books the line- up, there are a lot of random DJ's

all female band in one of the other tents

Peter Hook on the main stage

My Interview with IDOL Magazine is out now ! :)

Here's What they asked me...for the Full Interview go to IDOL MAGAZINE click here>

DJ Nikki Beatnik is arguably the hottest female DJ in the UK. A chaotic mix of musical talent and blistering style, she is a staple in the biggest clubs across the world. Having spun for quite literally every celebrity imaginable, she has taken her trademark fusion of fashion and music to the blogosphere, where she tirelessly hunts for the freshest talent on the street. In addition to this hectic schedule, she currently hosts the most stylish night in London, -FashBashSoundClash and is pursuing her future goals of producing, developing up and coming UK artists and chasing her own idea of success. IDOL caught up with Nikki to talk shoes, art and music …

What’s your biggest achievement so far?

There so many things I feel proud of (professionally speaking). I am doing Glastonbury with Kelis in few days. have DJed for Beyonce, Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, Ludacris, and just about everyone in music, I would say. Festivals are cool; I have done parties all over the world from New Zealand for big brands, to the States and MTV parties in caves.

About 8 years ago, I used to run a club in London, which was probably the busiest celebrity club but at the time when people weren’t so obsessed by them and what they were doing. We used to have Madonna coming and hanging out every week, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kelis, Eminem. It was called 57, a tiny members club that holds 300 people inside (and in which we used to put 600) and we used to do it every Tuesday. Every major film celebrity and music star was there as well as rude boys, crazy chicks and just about everyone. It was never about how much money you had, we only let friends inside. We turned down so many famous people. We didn’t give a shit. Three girls were running it. It was in the newspapers every week. We never told anyone about this place and we also turned down press all the time, they wanted to buy stories and pictures from each party. I think that kinda got my name out there more. During this time I was approached by many famous people to do their parties as well as opening concerts and after parties. But I still always ran my club nights as they were getting more successful. I began working with the Ministry of Sound, going to Ibiza (Pacha and Eden) and doing different seasons– I went to Africa, The Middle East, China, Thailand and New Zealand.

But now I like bringing new talent through and producing records. I see my next thing as going with my band and doing live gigs – and inviting other artists to come and play with us.

I DJ for just about everyone in Hip Hop and RnB, I met everyone I wanted to meet, from Tom Jones to Kayne West. Now I would like to focus on UK artists because there is so much talent here and I feel artists come from other countries, and “steal” our ideas, and take it back to their countries. At the moment I am working with lots of people and I have 6 records in production that will be out in the next couple of months. We wanna be like the Coco Chanel of Electro music. I love Hip Hop, I will always love it but electronic music is my soul. I like fusions as well, I quite often use drum & bass in my sets.

Do you have an IDOL?

I have not had so many IDOLs. There are many people that I get inspired by though. People like Peaches, Blondie, Grace Jones – the 80s era. People that I not only love for their music but also for their style and at the same time the future generation inspires me; 18 or 19-year-old rappers. As far a one IDOL I probably can’t answer that question.

…why do you have over 300 pairs of shoes?

I think every woman should be obsessed with shoes. I just gave away 40 pairs of shoes to friends and family, well I had to… I literally had no more room left in my house.
