Masters at Work, MK, India, Michael Watford, Byron Stingly. Barbara Tucker...big influences on my DJ life.

Masters at Work & MK were big inspirations for me as a DJ. I love all MK's work, he made the best dubs & remixes- I owned most of them, but then out of nowhere he decided to retire from DJing at the height of his success. I'm not sure what happened to him, if he retired under the name MK and went on under another name, but I LOVED him...hit me if you know peeps!
Masters at Work were also huge influences on me. They have done so much great work. I love their sound. Genius's, so I had a little reminisce this morning...and my footwear of choice yesterday was these studded bad boys :)
Couldnt do this without mentioning the voices behind the records, Michael Watford, Byron Stingly, India, Jocelyn Brown & Barabara Tucker. When people sang without auto- tune, live in clubs, the real deal. Watch Barabara & India freestyling...amazing

Loved this one, I used to spin this one all the time. Big Tune.

Ten City were one of my favourite groups, Byron Stingly is an amazing singer- I wanna work with him & Michael Watford. Legends. Listen to Michael's voice!

The Ghosts of City de Soleil

Im not really up to date on films, many films our right now leave me uninspired. So I am probably really late on this one: The Ghosts of City de Soliel. A documentary film about the gangs in Port Au Prince, Haiti who were funded by the then President- Aristide to keep order in the shanty town areas of the city. When Aristide was ousted an a military coups in 2004, their gangs became outlaws and were hunted down by the US troops & Haitian police.
The film was amazing, very sad and touching and your heart goes out to the people, living in this area described by the UN as 'the most dangerous place on the planet'.

Im in the new STATE OF PLAY MAGAZINE Issue 4

Check out the new STATE OF PLAY Magazine issue 4'The Other London' for all things art, culture & social issues. This issue was inspired by STATIS & my band's track 'It Came From London'. You can download the issue at the above link.

The new issue was showcased at the Fashbashsoundclash LFW party & art exhibition we held in conjunction with Tia Grazette, editor of State Of Play.

I am in the magazine along with some of my artwork & some great photography, artwork from Ldn artists who gave their interpretation of what London meant to them as well as some great insightful articles all on 'the other London', some of these include: What immigrants really think of London, Art Renaissance, an octogenarian who has lived in Hoxton all his life, The Kingsland Road: Art & Cultures Collide & the disturbing rise of London's no go areas.

It's a good read. Check it out.

Today Im 'a lil bit rock' so I'll mostly be wearing studded boots :)

I woke up feeling a little bit rock and roll, so Im bussing my studded ankle boots and maybe some Westwood today. Been listening to The Sex Pistols.

I have 3 Beatnik mixtapes to do today, two for a Fashion show & one for the All The Rage Chrarity whose event we are performing at next week, so Im gonna get on with work now & the ALl The Rage mix will be available on i tunes this week.
Here are my rock n rolla shoes today

& my nails :) I have gone for neon pink with a purple tip

Gabicci Menswear, Chandelier and Duke & Duchess, Cassius & fly- boys

Firstly a huge congratulations to east London brand Chandelier and Duke & Duchess who are now stocked in Topshop. They have been working away hard from their store in Brick Lane making their mark in Shoreditch, so a well deserved pat on the back to them as Toppers is a big move. I have a few of their pieces already which have been bussed as various DJ gigs and I now have my eye on these two lovelies (below). Check them out at the flagship Oxford Circus branch & pick yourself up some bargains now the sale is on.

Also I just had to blog the next release from Cassius- I know, I know I keep going on about them, but if I had a pound for everyone who asked me where I got my Cassius glasses from, I could easily buy one of the new MAHER frames in every colour. Liove the cute guy & styling in the press shots too :)

And lastly for today, I wanted to give some airtime to Gabicci. Anyone who was down with the 80s casual look will know the name- Sergio Tachinni, Fila & farrahs, they were all part of the same crew and I loved them all. Gabicci is now back like crack, reviving their 'heritage leisurewear'. Gabicci’s collection pays homage to their original 70’s and 80’s designs: faux suede trimmed knits and intricately panelled jersey polo shirts, all with the iconic gold G lettering on the breast pocket.

It's so good it almost makes me want to join a firm myself...check the film of the very same title The Firm- pure Sergio & Gabicci all the way through and like The Business before it, the styling is great.

one of my favourite tunes ever! ABC- Poison Arrow- so casual :)

BIG TUNE

Gabicci also reminds me of the most stylish old school Rasta's that used to rock it in the 80s, so I gratuitously added some pictures of Bob looking fly- just because.

and on a chopper, because I still miss mine :(

Yesterday I DJ'd at The River Island Fashion Show Preview for their Christmas Collection

Yesterday was a fun day :)

I was booked by the fabulous ladies at River Island to spin for their Runway preview of their Christmas Collection.
The show was really dope, with some great pieces, fabulous shoes (I mean FAB-U-LOUS) & the ladies from River Island press office made it so much fun!

The collection was a very 80s inspired collection so I based the catwalk music on my great inspirations & some of my favourite music from the 80s...
Some of the tunes on my playlist:
Janet Jackson- What Have You Done For Me Lately

Pointer Sisters- Automatic
Chromeo- Fancy Footwork
Herbie Hancock- Rockit ABC-
Poison Arrow
MJ- Wanna Be Starting Something
Adeva- Respect Talking Heads- Days Go By

Here are some pics & films from the show

Behind the decks: thanks to STATIS who came along and helped me out & took some great pics :) I played many BEATNIK tunes, before during & after the show.

NIKITA jacket, Headphones by Michelle @ Jake & Gigi, Nails by Nailgirls, Islington.
