The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2009. Statis & DJ NIKKI go back to their roots..
Many years ago I did a degree in Fine Art, Statis my co- producer & frontman of Beatnik music, did his degree in Product Design at St Martins, so every now and then it is nice to check out some art.
Last week we went to the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition in central London. It is the largest open contemorary art exhibition in the world with ordinary members of the public submitting artwork alongside very established names like Anthony Gormley. The exhibition has been held anually since the Royal Academy was founded in 1768! Artists submit work by standing in long queue's outside the Royal Academy early in the year, paying £50 per piece of submitted artwork and then waiting and hoping that this year their piece will catch the eyes of the commitee.
This year there were around 1200 artists chosen to exhibit, from painters to printers, scuptors to architecture, mixed media & film. There was so much diversity and a shed load of work which had been put in by artists and the gallery had obviously thought very carefully about how to show the pieces too, with each room being 'hung' by various luminaries from the artworld.
There was some great work and the most interesting part for me is that it is largely all for sale! We had great fun checking out who had made the most sales! (as indicated by small orange stickers next to each picture)

The Super Super Magazine party for Reebok was fun on Friday
Last Friday Statis and I went to the Reebok Lounge in Shoreditch for The Super Super party for Reebok.
I did the 25th Anniversary Reebok Ad campaign for them last year for Freestyles shoe. This year they have teamed up with Namalee of Super Super fame and other stylist's across the world, much as they did for our campaign with different women in cities in each continent.
The London Namalee trainers are wonderwoman themed shoes, which I love as I have a slight wonderwoman obsession(see below). There was music by the Super Super team a performance by Namalee and great images on the walls taken by the talented photographer 'Billa'. I am loving his work, very fresh, clean and yet colourful to the max. It sits so well with Super Super/ Namalee's style of 'more is more'. Here are some of the pictures from the party & campaign... My Wonderwoman Shoe fetish - these are my everyday wonderwoman summer sandal...
Here are the Wonderwoman London trainers as worn by Namalee and on the end of my leg, that Dee @ Reebok Lounge very kindly gave me. I love them!
Here is my shoe from last year's Freestyle 25th Anniversary at the Paris Launch
